Job summary

Shepherd is seeking its first Machine Learning Engineer to join the Fully Autonomous Underwriting team. The ideal candidate will design and build end-to-end ML systems to enhance underwriting processes. This role requires over 4 years of relevant experience, particularly in model deployment, Python, and collaboration with domain experts. Qualifications

• 4+ years of industry experience in ML systems from data to production.
• Experience finetuning LLMs using techniques like RLHF or DPO.
• Deep proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks.
• Experience with LLMs in production including prompt engineering.
• Excellent collaboration skills to work with non-technical underwriters.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship ML systems for autonomous underwriting.
• Build feedback loops to improve model performance.
• Develop confidence scoring frameworks for system autonomy.
• Partner with underwriters to extract domain knowledge.
• Ensure safety in AI underwriting as autonomy scales.
