Job summary

Avallon is seeking a Founding Forward Deployed Engineer to join a six‑person YC‑backed team in New York. You will own end‑to‑end core platform components, design systems, and ship production code weekly, with zero‑hand‑holding and high agency.

The role requires TypeScript/SQL, hands‑on AWS, startup background, and experience in regulated environments. You will collaborate with forward‑deployed engineers to address real customer pain points and shape developer tooling and CI/CD.

Qualifications

• Evidence TypeScript and SQL in resume or GitHub.
• Hands-on AWS production experience.
• Startup experience with end-to-end ownership of core platform.
• Experience in regulated environments (fintech/insurtech/healthtech) with auditability.
• Public artifact showing engineering interest outside of day-to-day employment.

Responsibilities

• Own entire platform components end-to-end — from evaluation pipelines and model reliability to document parsing and agent execution infrastructure.
• Build and maintain reliability systems: retries, circuit breakers, failover, observability, and canary deployments.
• Design and ship the eval platform that catches regressions before customers do, including per-run evals and automated regression detection.
• Collaborate closely with forward‑deployed engineers to rapidly spec, build, and ship solutions surfaced directly from customer pain points.
• Shape developer platform tooling, CI/CD workflows, and coding agent integrations to unlock team velocity.

Founding Forward Deployed Engineer – Avallon

Full-time, On-site, New York, NY

Salary: $140K‑$210K base + 0.2 – 0.7% equity

About this role

We are looking for a Founding Software Engineer with 4–6 years of experience to take true end‑to‑end ownership of the core platform powering Avallon's AI agents — the infrastructure that is already live with top‑10 insurance carriers and scaling at 25x revenue growth. This is a high‑agency, zero‑hand‑holding role on a six‑person YC‑backed team where you design systems, orchestrate AI agents, and ship production code on a weekly cycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Own entire platform components end‑to‑end — from evaluation pipelines and model reliability to document parsing and agent execution infrastructure.
• Build and maintain reliability systems: retries, circuit breakers, failover, observability, and canary deployments.
• Design and ship the eval platform that catches regressions before customers do, including per‑run evals and automated regression detection.
• Collaborate closely with forward‑deployed engineers to rapidly spec, build, and ship solutions surfaced directly from customer pain points.
• Shape developer platform tooling, CI/CD workflows, and coding agent integrations to unlock team velocity.

Key Requirements

• TypeScript and SQL as primary production languages — must be clearly evidenced on resume or GitHub.
• Hands‑on AWS experience in a production environment.
• Startup experience (Seed–Series B) with demonstrated end‑to‑end ownership of a core platform component — not just feature contributions.
• Experience in a regulated or security‑sensitive environment (fintech, insurtech, healthtech) where auditability and traceability were hard requirements.
• A public artifact (GitHub, personal site, publication) showing genuine engineering interest outside of day‑to‑day employment.
