Job summary

Houston Christian University – Archie W. Dunham College of Business seeks a founding Chair of Mechanical Engineering to lead program development, accreditation readiness, and strategic growth.

The chair will guide faculty, staff, and resources to establish new labs and align the program with the university’s Ten Pillars vision. The role requires a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, undergraduate teaching experience, and demonstrated leadership in higher education.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering.
  • Leadership experience in higher education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Dean and College leadership to set strategic vision for Mechanical Engineering at HCU.
  • Develop curriculum, degree changes, and catalog updates.
  • Prepare accurate documentation for Academic Affairs Committee and ABET accreditation.
  • Review program assessments per SACSCOC and other accrediting agencies.
  • Select, vet and supervise adjunct faculty and prepare course schedules.
  • Oversee recruitment of faculty and establishment of labs in renovated space.
  • Represent the college professionally across campus and with external stakeholders.
  • Lead efforts to integrate faith-and-learning within the curriculum.
  • Attend campus and College meetings and participate in governance activities.
