CellType Inc. is seeking a Founding Research Engineer to develop and optimize systems for their biological AI models. This pivotal role involves training, evaluation, and making systems run reliably while collaborating closely with scientific experts.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Python and ML frameworks such as PyTorch or JAX, along with a solid understanding of reinforcement learning and performance debugging in production systems. The position is based in New York City but may allow for remote work.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience training or improving LLM or generative ML systems.
• Strong software engineering and distributed systems fundamentals.
• Deep experience with Python and modern ML frameworks like PyTorch or JAX.
• Experience with reinforcement learning or post-training methods.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve training and post-training systems for biological models.
• Design and run experiments across supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning.
• Own critical parts of the model training stack and improve reliability.

Skills

Experience with LLM or generative ML systems

Software engineering fundamentals

Deep experience with Python
