Job summary

Futureproofing is seeking a Founding AI Engineer to move an end-to-end AI platform for investment banking from a near-complete MVP to a product that real customers rely on.

This role focuses on building AI capabilities using LLMs, agents, RAG, and evaluation, with ownership across critical system components. Location: Boston, MA, onsite.

Qualifications

This role focuses on building AI capabilities using LLMs, agents, RAG, and evaluation, with ownership across critical system components.

Key Responsibilities

• Advance the product from MVP to production outcomes customers depend on.
• Design and build LLM, agent, RAG, and evaluation features as core product surface areas rather than secondary add-ons.
• Partner directly with the founding team on what to build and the rationale behind build decisions.
• Take hands-on ownership of core system areas, including the data pipeline, infrastructure, and model integration.
• Execute quickly alongside engineers who already know how to ship.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years shipping production software, including meaningful experience at an early-stage company.
• Experience taking at least one AI-powered product from initial concept to real users in production, with the ability to explain tradeoffs made along the way.
• Strong depth across modern stacks, typically TypeScript/React/Node and/or Python, with comfort spanning full-stack development into infrastructure.
• Use AI tooling daily as part of how you build.
• Comfort operating in ambiguity and making key decisions.
• Ability to discuss technical tradeoffs with non-engineering stakeholders without losing clarity for either side.
• Founding engineer experience is a plus; this position does not carry the traditional scope of building and owning the entire system solo.
