Job summary

Withum's Tax Services Group seeks a Tax Senior Manager to lead engagements across high-net-worth and business tax areas, guiding planning through completion. You will supervise staff, mentor juniors, and nurture client relationships with proactive communication and strategic guidance.

The role spans complex fiduciary, estate, and multi-jurisdictional tax matters, requiring deep tax knowledge, leadership, and collaboration with partners. California and other major offices are options.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institution.
• CPA, JD, LLM or MST required.
• Minimum of 8+ years of professional services experience.
• Industry knowledge within the Technology/Startup and Emerging Growth sector a plus.
• Demonstrated strategic leadership and ability to lead a team and manage client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Lead the review of complex high-net-worth individual, fiduciary, gift and estate tax returns, ensuring accuracy and alignment with planning.
• Conduct advanced tax research and draft technical memoranda addressing complex issues.
• Design and implement tax planning strategies for founders and tech executives.
• Serve as a trusted advisor, managing client relationships through proactive communication and strategic consultations.
• Mentor and supervise staff, fostering technical development and collaboration.
• Collaborate with partners and senior leadership on engagements, thought leadership and business development.
• Ensure compliance with evolving federal, state, and local tax regulations and industry trends.
• Contribute to firm-wide initiatives and innovation projects to support culture.

Withum's Tax Services Group is made up of a brilliant team of tax specialists that work to ensure tax reporting obligations are met in an accurate and timely manner and minimize or defer the payment of taxes. Their comprehensive understanding of international, US federal, state, and local regulations, counting our affiliation with HLB international, allows them to help develop economical tax strategies anywhere. Their services include Business, Individual, State & Local tax, R&D Tax Credit, as well as International and Private Client services.

This Tax Senior Manager role will be based out of one of our Los Angeles, CA, Orange County, CA, San Francisco, CA, San Ramon, CA, San Diego, CA, New York, NY, or Whippany, NJ offices. You'll work alongside an integrated team of seasoned, well‑known CPAs and industry leaders. In this position, you will take a lead role on all aspects of tax engagements, from planning to completion, to include supervision/mentoring of staff and building/maintaining relationships with clients.

How You'll Spend Your Time

• Leading the review of complex high‑net‑worth individual, fiduciary, gift and estate and other tax returns, ensuring accuracy and alignment with strategic planning
• Conducting advanced tax research and drafting technical memoranda addressing complex issues
• Designing and implementing tax planning strategies that optimize wealth preservation, charitable giving, and succession planning for founders and tech executives
• Serving as a trusted advisor, managing client relationships through proactive communication, strategic consultations, and responsive service
• Mentoring and supervising staff, fostering technical development, accountability, and a collaborative team culture
• Collaborating with partners and senior leadership on client engagements, thought leadership, and business development initiatives
• Ensuring compliance with evolving federal, state, and local tax regulations, staying ahead of legislative changes and industry trends
• Contributing to process improvement, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy
• Engaging in firm-wide initiatives, including innovation projects, marketing efforts, and continuing education programs that support Withum's dynamic and inclusive culture

Compensation

California ranges are from $135,000 - $230,000

New Jersey ranges are from $130,000 - $230,000

New York City range is from $150,000 - $225,000
