Job summary

Alamance County Department of Social Services is seeking a Foster Care Social Worker to guide children in foster care toward safety, stability, and permanency. You will assess needs, coordinate services, and advocate for child well‑being within a multidisciplinary team.

Your work includes court reports, family service plans, home visits, and collaboration with schools, mental health providers, and foster families to support reunification and lasting permanency.

Qualifications

• Master’s in Social Work (Child Welfare Collaborative) with required experience.
• Bachelor’s in Social Work with 1–2 years of social work or counseling.
• Bachelor’s in Social Work with 2+ years of social work or counseling experience.
• Master’s in Counseling with 2+ years of social work or counseling.
• Four-year degree in Human Services with 3+ years in social work or counseling.
• Bachelor’s + 4 years in rehabilitation, pastoral counseling, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Complete ongoing assessments and develop clear family service plans for reunification and permanency.
• Build strong relationships with children, biological parents, foster parents, and service providers.
• Conduct regular home visits to monitor placements, safety, and stability.
• Coordinate services and referrals to community resources for parenting, mental health, education, and development.
• Prepare timely case documentation: court reports, case notes, and permanency planning materials.
• Serve as a credible expert witness in court, presenting findings and recommendations.
• Ensure safe transportation for visits, services, and appointments.
• Collaborate across systems with schools, mental health providers, and agencies to support child growth.
• Engage with the public, promoting safety and understanding of policies.
• Participate in CFT meetings, permanency planning reviews, supervision, training, and on-call rotation.
