Job summary

Baker Hill is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer – Cash Flow Analysis (CFA) to sit with bankers, understand how they spread and analyze C&I and CRE lending, and turn that into AI-powered software.

You’ll embed with customers in real environments, build and deploy solutions, and bring what you learn back to our product and engineering teams. The role blends credit analysis with hands-on coding and travels to client sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Finance, Lending Operations, Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience spreading financial statements and performing cash flow analysis in a bank, credit union, or lending environment, or in a fintech role directly supporting those workflows.
  • Demonstrated specialization in both C&I and complex CRE underwriting.
  • Strong working knowledge of business and personal financial statements, tax returns, and cash flow methodologies (UCA, EBITDA-based, global cash flow, DSCR, NOI-based CRE analysis).
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred) and comfort with SQL, APIs, JSON, and scripting for data transformation and integration.
  • Experience building or deploying software solutions in customer environments, such as implementation engineering, solutions engineering, technical consulting, or similar.
  • Strong communication skills with both bankers and engineers, and the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to a chief credit officer.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites 50%.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with bank and credit union credit teams to observe, document, and improve how they spread financials, normalize statements, and calculate DSCR, global cash flow, and NOI-based metrics.
  • Build, configure, and deploy AI-assisted workflows for document extraction, statement classification, spreading, adjustments, and narrative generation, then tune them against real customer data.
  • Rapidly prototype solutions in the field (extraction pipelines, spreading templates, validation rules, integrations) and take the proven ones back to product and engineering for productization.
  • Own technical delivery for pilots and design partner implementations, from kickoff through production, including data mapping, integration with origination and core systems, and customer enablement.
  • Apply C&I expertise: working capital and borrowing base analysis, EBITDA normalization and add-backs, covenant testing, seasonality, concentration risk, and multi-entity operating companies.
  • Apply complex CRE expertise: rent roll and T-12 analysis, NOI normalization, stabilized vs. as-is underwriting, lease rollover and tenant concentration, construction and lease-up projections, owner-occupied vs. investor properties, and global cash flow across sponsor and guarantor portfolios.
  • Build evaluation harnesses that measure accuracy, explainability, and auditability against analyst-spread benchmarks, and report results to customers and internal teams.
  • Identify edge cases (complex ownership structures, cross-collateralized relationships, K-1 flows, messy scans) and turn them into test sets, feedback for the AI team, and product requirements.
  • Be the voice of the customer in roadmap discussions, with evidence from the field rather than opinion.
  • Support sales and client success with technical demos, proofs of concept, and credibility in front of credit officers and executives.
  • Stay current on credit policy, regulatory expectations, model risk management guidance, and competitive offerings.

Full Time Professional Carmel, IN, US

Baker Hill builds commercial and small-business loan origination software used by banks and credit unions. We’re building our next-generation cash flow analysis product, and we need a Forward Deployed Engineer – Cash Flow Analysis (CFA) who can sit with bankers, understand how they actually spread and analyze C&I and complex CRE lending, and turn that into working AI-powered software.

You’ll embed with customers and design partners, build and deploy solutions in their real environments with their real documents, and carry what you learn back to our product and engineering teams. This role combines credit analyst fluency with hands‑on technical skill. You can spread a rent roll and a borrowing base, and you can also ship code.

Essential Functions/Job Duties
  • Embed with bank and credit union credit teams to observe, document, and improve how they spread financials, normalize statements, and calculate DSCR, global cash flow, and NOI-based metrics
  • Build, configure, and deploy AI‑assisted workflows for document extraction, statement classification, spreading, adjustments, and narrative generation, then tune them against real customer data
  • Rapidly prototype solutions in the field (extraction pipelines, spreading templates, validation rules, integrations) and take the proven ones back to product and engineering for productization
  • Own technical delivery for pilots and design partner implementations, from kickoff through production, including data mapping, integration with origination and core systems, and customer enablement
  • Apply C&I expertise: working capital and borrowing base analysis, EBITDA normalization and add‑backs, covenant testing, seasonality, concentration risk, and multi‑entity operating companies
  • Apply complex CRE expertise: rent roll and T-12 analysis, NOI normalization, stabilized vs. as‑is underwriting, lease rollover and tenant concentration, construction and lease‑up projections, owner‑occupied vs. investor properties, and global cash flow across sponsor and guarantor portfolios
  • Build evaluation harnesses that measure accuracy, explainability, and auditability against analyst‑spread benchmarks, and report results to customers and internal teams
  • Identify edge cases (complex ownership structures, cross‑collateralized relationships, K‑1 flows, messy scans) and turn them into test sets, feedback for the AI team, and product requirements
  • Be the voice of the customer in roadmap discussions, with evidence from the field rather than opinion
  • Support sales and client success with technical demos, proofs of concept, and credibility in front of credit officers and executives
  • Stay current on credit policy, regulatory expectations, model risk management guidance, and competitive offerings
What Success Looks Like
  • First 90 days: Learn our current CFA capabilities, architecture, and customers; shadow analysts end to end across C&I and CRE; ship a first working prototype against real customer documents
  • 6 months: Lead one or more design partner pilots live in production, with a benchmark showing accuracy and analyst time saved
  • 12 months: Field‑proven AI capabilities folded into the core product, with a repeatable deployment playbook and satisfied reference customers
Who You Are

You’re a credit analyst who learned to code, or an engineer who learned to read a credit memo. You get energy from being in the room with the customer, you’re comfortable being handed a messy rent roll and a deadline, and you’re honest about where AI works, where it doesn’t, and where a banker will insist on checking the work.

  • BA/BS in Finance, Lending Operations, Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
