Job summary

AMD is seeking a Forward Deployed AI Research Scientist to translate customer needs into AI research directions and engineer value across AI-enabled workflows. You will prototype, evaluate, and communicate advanced AI methods, impacting compute, software, and hardware teams.

You will partner with researchers and engineers to shape experiments, define success criteria, and deliver measurable outcomes for strategic customers and partnerships.

Qualifications

• Strong background in AI, ML, systems, or applied research with ability to prototype and run measurable experiments.
• Experience with modern generative AI methods, LLMs, agents, tool use, retrieval, post-training, evaluation, or applied ML systems.
• Strong programming ability in Python and familiarity with ML frameworks (PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow).
• Ability to work with technical stakeholders across software, hardware, infrastructure, research, product, and business teams.
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex AI topics to technical and executive audiences.

Responsibilities

• Identify high-value AI opportunities in compute, systems, software, and hardware engineering workflows.
• Translate needs into research questions, technical plans, and prototype paths.
• Prototype and evaluate modern AI methods for engineering tasks and workflows.
• Define metrics, evals, benchmarks, and acceptance criteria for AI-assisted workflows.
• Create technical narratives, demos, and material for senior stakeholders on tradeoffs and value.
• Support strategic deals by bridging business goals and AI engineering.
• Capture needs and translate into reusable insights for roadmaps.
• Mentor teams on AI methods and improve experimentation and communication.
