Catapult Solutions Group seeks a Resident Engineer with FortiGate AWS expertise for a 12-month, fully remote engagement. You’ll be the hands-on technical lead for a large security transformation, building FortiManager/FAZ/FGT in AWS and migrating from Cisco FTD across regions.

You will plan cutovers, decommission legacy firewalls, and work closely with cloud, network, and security teams to deliver a centrally managed security architecture while aligning with PST hours.

Job Description

We are looking for a Resident Engineer with strong expertise in Fortinet FortiGate and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to join a 12-month, fully remote engagement. You will be the hands-on technical lead for a large security transformation. The project moves a multi-region AWS environment off Cisco FTD and AWS Network Firewall and onto a consolidated Fortinet platform.

Day to day, you will build and configure FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer and FortiGate virtual machines. You will plan and execute cutovers across six AWS regions and decommission legacy firewall infrastructure. You will work closely with the client’s cloud, network and security teams to carry out complex changes with minimal disruption, and to leave behind an optimized, centrally managed security architecture.

The ideal candidate enjoys solving cloud networking challenges and is comfortable owning critical production changes. They are passionate about building secure, scalable architectures in AWS.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Build and configure FortiManager (FMG) virtual machines in AWS.
• Build and configure FortiAnalyzer (FAZ) virtual machines in AWS.
• Provision and cut over FortiGate virtual machines within an Inspection VPC.
• Support the AWS inspection cutover to Fortinet across six AWS regions.
• Decommission 12 AWS Network Firewalls.
• Provision and cut over a Central Security VPC to Fortinet.
• Migrate and consolidate 21 Cisco FTD firewalls onto the Fortinet platform.
• Assess, configure and enable optimized security policies.
• Coordinate with client stakeholders to plan, document and execute change windows.

Required Experience/Skills

• Strong hands-on experience implementing and supporting FortiGate in AWS environments.
• Hands-on experience with AWS networking services and architectures, including:
• Transit Gateway (TGW)
• AWS Network Firewall
• Subnet and TGW route table associations and propagations
• AWS CloudFormation
• Graviton- and AMD-based instance types
• Proven experience with firewall migration, cutover, consolidation and decommissioning.
• Working knowledge of Cisco FTD.
• Ability to support complex cloud network and security changes in a multi-region AWS environment.
• Strong communication, documentation and client-facing skills.
• Willingness to work PST hours.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience deploying Active/Passive and Active/Active FortiGate architectures in AWS, including the feature constraints that drive architecture selection.
• Experience deploying FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer in AWS.
• Experience with Terraform.
• Fortinet (NSE / FCP / FCSS) or AWS (Advanced Networking, Security Specialty) certifications.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
