Overview

Sonaca North America is seeking Forming Fabricators for its Sheetmetal department. Fabricators will work independently and collaboratively to fabricate detail parts, support quality policies, lean processes, continuous improvement, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Follow company and work‑center policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Attend and actively participate in all required training.
• Review manufacturing planning, part‑specific engineering information, set‑up instructions to understand appropriate work process and quality requirements.
• For machine‑dependent operations select, align, and secure fixtures, tools, accessories and material; set up machines and observe operation during first part production to detect malfunctions.
• Adjust machine controls or other control media as required.
• Set‑up and operate hydraulic shear, chop saw, forklift and other machines based on assignment.
• Use gauges, scales, calipers, mylars, blueprints and customer tools to check first‑part quality.
• Obtain first‑part buy‑off from lead person, supervisor, QC inspector or second team member.
• Upon buy‑off complete production run for the manufacturing planning operation.
• Perform 100% inspection of all parts after first‑part buy‑off and record statistical process control data.
• Use target times to evaluate timely completion and notify lead person or supervisor about discrepancies.
• Maintain minor machine maintenance and keep machines properly aligned and in good condition.
• Complete required documentation (buy‑off, accurate part counts, labor card entry, set‑up info, special notes, data plans, tie‑in info, disposition of non‑conforming material).
• Take down machine or hand‑tool set‑up after production run and return tools to proper locations.
• Move completed part order to next manufacturing operation or staging area.
• Use continuous process improvement tools to develop and install improvements that impact throughput, resources, space and organization.
• Actively participate in work‑center and cross‑functional process improvement teams.
• Conduct all business transactions and communications in a professional manner in line with company policy.
• Maintain company confidentiality in all dealings with delivery personnel, vendors, etc.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; non‑diploma candidates must complete a pre‑employment assessment.
• Detail oriented with ability to use measuring tools such as micrometer, calipers and electronic calipers.
• Ability to read and understand tolerances on manufacturing drawings.
• Demonstrated decision‑making ability using good judgment for problem solving.
• Basic math proficiency.
• Thorough understanding of process flows, lead times and lean principles in a manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Noise levels ranging from quiet to extremely loud.
• Must wear PPE (eye, ear, foot protection) when working on the manufacturing floor.
• May occasionally lift or move 10–50 pounds.
