Job summary

Americold is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain forklifts and related material handling equipment. You will inspect and rebuild major components, manage batteries and chargers, and ensure compliance with OSHA standards.

The role requires hands-on experience, technical training, and the ability to document preventive maintenance in CMMS. Candidates should be comfortable with flexible shifts and training junior staff.

Qualifications

• Forklift maintenance experience required or 4 years of other mechanic experience.
• Completion of assigned technical training and/or mechanical-electrical courses.
• Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) training and certification required.
• Basic computer skills for email, internet searches, and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance and repairs on forklifts and material handling equipment electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
• Rebuild or replace major components such as masts, undercarriages, transmissions, and engines or motors.
• Inspect equipment to ensure OSHA and operational standards are met.
• Maintain batteries and chargers in working order according to OSHA standards.
• Test, troubleshoot, and evaluate equipment performance using appropriate instruments.
• Maintain preventive maintenance records in the CMMS and keep work areas clean.
• Share knowledge and assist in training less experienced technicians.
• Work flexible shifts, including on-call as required.
• Other essential duties as necessary.

What You\'ll Do

You will perform troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repairs on forklifts and other material handling equipment to ensure operational standards are met. You will inspect, rebuild, and replace major components, maintain batteries and chargers, and oversee outside service providers as needed. You will maintain accurate preventive maintenance records and support the development of less experienced technicians.

Essential Functions

• Troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance and repairs on forklifts and material handling equipment electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
• Rebuild or replace major components such as masts, undercarriages, transmissions, and engines or motors.
• Inspect forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment to ensure compliance with OSHA and operational standards.
• Maintain batteries and chargers in working order according to OSHA standards.
• Test, maintain, and evaluate equipment performance using appropriate instruments.
• Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records within the CMMS system and keep work area organized and clean.
• Share knowledge and assist in training and development of less experienced technicians.
• Work flexible shifts, if required, including on call.
• Other essential duties may be applicable and assigned as necessary.

What Experience and Education You Need

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Minimum 2 years of forklift maintenance experience OR minimum 4 years of other mechanic experience in lieu of specialized Forklift experience (i.e. auto, diesel, or truck/trailer mechanic experience).
• Required to successfully complete assigned technical training and/or mechanical-electrical courses.
• Required to complete HAZMAT training and maintain certification.
• Basic computer skills for email, internet searches, and data entry required.

What Could Set You Apart

• Experience working in a cold storage environment.
• Specialized Forklift maintenance/repair training (Crown, Raymond, etc.).
• Technical certification or degree preferred.
• Familiarity with Oracle Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnose down to the component level on material handling equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Able to tolerate working environment with inside controlled temperatures of minus 45 (-45) degrees Fahrenheit (-43 degrees Celsius) and outside ambient temperatures (including heat, cold and precipitation).
• Able to work at heights in excess of 30 ft. (9 meters) and access elevated platforms, catwalks, and roofs.
• Able to work in confined areas.
• Able to climb ladders and stairs.
• Able frequently to stand, walk, push, pull, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch.
• Able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (23 kg) frequently.
• Able to operate hand and power tools safely.
• Able to meet specific vision abilities required by this job, including close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception. (Use of contacts are prohibited when working with ammonia.)
• Depending on specific role, able to pass a physical and respiratory/respirator fit exam.
• Able to frequently step up/on or step down/off to mount and dismount material handling equipment.
• Able to perform fine articulation movements with fingers/hands and/or feet to operate equipment.
• Able to wear personal protective equipment required for any/all tasks.
