Job summary

Carolina Canners, Inc. is seeking a Forklift Operator / Utility for multiple shifts to support loading, unloading, and materials flow in our production facility in Cheraw, SC. The role emphasizes safe operation, teamwork, and adherence to GMP standards.

You will assist operators, supply preforms and labels, monitor schedules, and help maintain clean, organized work areas while ensuring high product quality and efficient shift handoffs.

Qualifications

• 18 years or older.
• High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Ability to operate a forklift.
• Must be able to read, write, and perform basic math.
• Must possess thorough understanding of plant machinery.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload preform boxes and label pallets.
• Review the production schedule to verify stocked preforms/labels.
• Supply preforms and labels for each operator.
• Provide breaks/relief for label or blow mold operators.
• Assist the label and blow mold machine operators on changesovers.
• Inspect machinery for issues and coordinate repairs with maintenance.
• Keep daily downtime and machine operation records.
• Ensure proper flow by moving materials and finished products.
• Maintain product and packaging quality.
• Operate manufacturing equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary work area per GMPs.

Forklift Operator / Utility - Multiple Shifts

POSITION SUMMARY

Store, ship, and receive preforms and labels. Provide breaks and vacation time for experienced operators.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Load and unload preform boxes and label pallets into the appropriate areas.
• Review the production schedule to verify the correct preforms and labels are stocked for operators.
• Supply preforms and labels for each operator.
• Provide breaks and vacation relief for label or blow mold machine operators.
• Must know the basic job responsibilities of the label and blow mold machine operators.
• Assist the label and blow mold machine operators on all changeovers.
• Make processing changes on the blow mold machines to accommodate variations in the preform or its environment.
• Inspect machinery for broken, loose, or potentially harmful items.
• Expediate repairs, working with maintenance as necessary.
• Keep daily records of downtime and machine operations.
• Remove or shift materials and/or finished products to facilitate proper flow.
• Ensure package and product quality.
• Inspect equipment for repairs.
• Operate all manufacturing equipment (including new technologies) efficiently and safely.
• Clean equipment and area before, during, and after shift.
• Ensure that the product and/or supplies are being handled in a sanitary method consistent with GMP’s and properly packaged.
• Maintain clean work area through good housekeeping practices.
• Work well with others in a team-orientated atmosphere.
• Other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

• 18 years or older.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Must be physically and mentally able to successfully perform the essential elements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
• The ability to hear, talk, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
• Vision requirements to do this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Must be able to use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, moving, and manipulating materials and parts.
• Must be able to safely lift up to 40 pounds on a periodic basis.
• Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of various types of materials and parts.
• This position requires walking or standing most of the time during the shift.
• Must be able to climb onto and off of machinery and forklift throughout the shift (8-10 hours per day).
• Bending and stooping is routine during the work shift.

Noteworthy

A forklift operator can be moved into Utility when they can independently operate all aspects of the blow mold and label machine.
