Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing in Walker, MI is seeking a dependable forklift operator to safely move materials, load and unload pallets, and support daily plant flow on the 1st shift (6 AM–2 PM). You will follow work instructions, maintain accurate inventories, and help keep a clean, organized work area.

You must be able to stand 8-10 hours, read and understand English, and have a High School diploma or GED along with related experience or training.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Able to stand for 8-10 hours a day and perform essential functions.
• English reading/writing/speaking at a level to safely perform duties.
• High School diploma or GED.
• One month related experience or training; or equivalent combination.
• Previous material handling experience preferred.
• Experience operating a forklift and driving a hi-lo is preferred.
• Strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Observes and complies with safety, environmental, regulatory, and statutory requirements.
• Participates in training programs identified for this position.
• Supports continuous improvement activities and auditing.
• Stops work on processes to contain defective material.
• Operates forklift to move pallets and transports loads to designated areas.
• Unloads and stacks material and inventories materials on the work floor.
• Recharges batteries or replaces liquefied gas tank.
• Moves between work areas to support plant flow and meet customer needs.
• Maintains positive relationships and uses feedback to improve performance.

Who We Want:

Provides customers (internal and external) with proper product delivered on-time and to the proper location. Ensure that inventory levels are accurate and maintained. Responsible for the safe operation of liquefied gas or electric powered industrial truck equipped with lifting devices (i.e. forklift)

What You’ll Do:

• Observes and complies with all safety, environmental, regulatory, and statutory requirements associated with this job description.
• Participates in needs analysis and attends and performs the requirements of scheduled training and educational programs identified for this position.
• Participates, as requested, in independent objective auditing activities and supports company continuous improvement activities.
• Stops work on processes as appropriate and contains suspect or defective material or services to avoid further processing.
• Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus.
• Positions forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials or hooks tow trucks to trailer hitch, and transports load to designated area.
• Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device.
• Inventories materials on work floor, and supply workers with materials as needed.
• Weighs materials or products and records weight on tags, labels, or production schedules.
• Loads or unloads materials onto or off of pallets, skids, or lifting device.
• Recharges batteries or replaces liquefied gas tank.

When and Where:

1st Shift Monday-Friday 6AM-2PM position located at our Plant in Walker, MI.

Occasionally, this may require you to arrive early, stay late, or work on weekends, outside of our regular hours, to ensure we successfully meet customer needs, deadlines, or urgent requests.

What You Need to Have:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Able to stand for 8-10 hours a day and be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English at a level sufficient to safely and effectively perform job duties, including following work instructions, safety procedures, and company communications.
• High School diploma or GED
• One month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous material handling work experience preferred
• Previous Hilo driving experience preferred
