Job summary

Woodgrain Houston is seeking a Forklift Operator to move, stack, and load material for shipment in a fast-paced distribution environment. You will operate forklift safely, inspect equipment, and ensure accurate order pulling.

In this role you will also perform replenishment tasks, use a handheld scanner, and support inventory and loading processes while following safety policies and quality standards. This position is located in Houston, TX with full-time hours and benefits.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Experience operating a forklift and loading/unloading materials.
  • Ability to read and follow route sheets and labels.

Responsibilities

  • Operates forklift in a safe and efficient manner according to company guidelines.
  • Inspects and records maintenance on vehicle at the beginning and end of shift.
  • Receives, unloads, moves and stacks material in designated warehouse locations.
  • Safely and efficiently moves material from warehouse to staging locations for loading.
  • Uses forklift to move material from warehouse staging location to the trailer for loading.
  • Operates a handheld scanner to track material in warehouse locations.
  • Assists with physical inventories as required.

Summary: The material handler is responsible for operating a forklift vehicle for the purpose of moving, stacking, replenishment, staging, and loading and unloading material for shipment. The operator is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle and will also be required to perform Order Puller duties as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operates forklift in a safe and efficient manner according to company guidelines.
  • Inspects and records maintenance on vehicle at the beginning and end of shift.
  • Receives, unloads, moves and stacks material in designated warehouse locations.
  • Safely and efficiently moves material from warehouse to staging locations for loading.
  • Uses forklift to move material from warehouse staging location to the trailer for loading.
  • Uses a route sheet to properly load trailer.
  • Utilizes proper loading techniques to ensure the material is safe, stable, and secure on the trailer.
  • Clean trailer proper to loading, removing any debris, returned materials, or orders to be reshipped, and placing material in designated location.
  • Operates stacking machine.
  • Performs replenishment duties, which include the moving of full and empty racks in accordance with SOP.
  • Operates a handheld scanner to track material in warehouse locations.
  • Performs order puller duties as needed, including the following: efficiently picks customer orders for shipment ensuring that the order is complete, accurate, and free of damage; appropriately lifts and stacks material on carts to ensure material may be properly banded/wrapped; prints and places shipping labels on materials.
  • Assists with physical inventories as required.
  • Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
  • Complies with company safety policies and OSHA standards.
  • Packaging of customer orders
  • Attends safety meeting as required
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or GED; or up to six months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Forklift License/Certification.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
