Job summary

Perdue Foods is seeking a Forklift Operator in the Shipping Department to help keep operations running smoothly. You will operate powered industrial equipment to move materials, support production, storage, and shipping, and ensure safety and efficiency in daily tasks.

This hands-on role emphasizes accuracy, teamwork, and adherence to quality standards as products move through the facility. A valid High School Diploma or equivalent and reliable work history are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 6 months of consecutive work history with one employer in the last 12 months.
  • Basic math, reading and writing skills.
  • Clean driving record may be required; valid license may be needed.
  • Basic computer skills may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate powered industrial equipment to move materials throughout the facility.
  • Move product packed on pallets or in crates as required.
  • Check to make sure loads are secure.
  • Stack empty pallets if needed; inform supervisor of misplaced pallets.
  • Perform daily equipment checks and battery recharges.
  • Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards.
  • May use RF scanner handheld unit to scan pallets.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Follow all facility safety guidelines.

Summary

As a Forklift Operator in the Shipping Department, you’ll be at the center of the action, helping keep our operations running smoothly from start to finish. You’ll skillfully operate powered industrial equipment to move materials throughout the facility, supporting production, storage, and shipping every step of the way. This is a hands‑on role where your attention to safety, efficiency, and teamwork makes a real impact, and where every day brings a sense of accomplishment as you help keep products moving and customers served.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 1:00 pm - 11:00 pm

  • Utilize production schedules and/or shipping orders, transports materials or equipment to and from designated areas in the facility.
  • Move product packed on pallets or in crates as required.
  • Check to make sure loads are secure.
  • May need to stack empty pallets. Notify supervisor of any pallets which are not in the correct locations.
  • Perform daily equipment checks such as recharging the truck's battery and lubricating equipment.
  • Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards.
  • May be required to use RF scanner handheld unit to scan pallets.
  • Maintain a clean and safety working environment.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner following facility guidelines.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 months of consecutive work history with one employer in the last 12 months.
  • Math, reading and writing skills.
  • Basic computer skills may be required.
  • Clean driving record and a valid state motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

When in a plant environment:

  • Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
  • May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
  • May handle products from 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
  • May be exposed to dust, feathers and all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility.
  • Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
  • Occasional exposure to carbon dioxide vapors 10ppm and chlorine less than 20 ppm.
  • Able to stand for several hours.
  • Work may include lifting (35 to 65 lbs) to heights from 5" to 84", reaching, bending, pushing boxes on conveyor assembly.
  • May need to have the ability to operate standup lift for 9 plus hours.
