Specialty Kraft Converters (SKC) is hiring for a Night Shift Forklift Driver/Production Assistant in Edison, New Jersey. This entry-level role provides hands-on training on forklift operation, material handling, and machine support within a fast-paced production line.
The position requires lifting up to 70 lbs, standing for long periods, and good reading of standard and metric tape measures. Training leads to night shifts with overtime opportunities.
Specialty Kraft Converters (SKC) is a privately owned domestic supplier of insulation vapor retarders and facings. We primarily supply residential building insulation manufacturers with printed and asphalt coated paper substrates. SKC is currently seeking full-time Production Assistants to join our organization. The manufacturing plant schedule is 7AM – 7PM and 7PM – 7AM, 4 to 5 days per week. Ambient temperature could be 95 – 100F during summer months.
The FORKLIFT DRIVER/PRODUCTION ASSISTANT role is a starting position with the company. New employees typically work a few weeks on day shift to train before transitioning to night shift. New employees are trained as forklift operators/machine helpers and work in a support role of the machine operator processing coated Kraft paper materials and laminations.
New employees who successfully adapt to the work environment, job duties and safety culture of SKC can bid to fill open positions within the company as new opportunities become available.
The work requires physical exertion, the ability to learn and follow instructions, a keen eye for safety, some mechanical ability and a positive attitude. We are a company of dedicated individuals with a sense of urgency who will do whatever is required to supply our customers.
You will keep busy operating a forklift, opening raw materials, helping to load the raw materials on the machine, unloading the finished product, cleaning up, changing over to other products and doing what it takes to keep the equipment running. There are periods of down time and intense periods of work. Staying busy is a key attribute to help balance the workflow.
We will progressively train you to drive a forklift and operate various stations of our main production machine. The job requires some heavy lifting (up to 70lbs.), the ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, reach, stretch, twist and squat. Excellent communication skills and general proficiency with computers are required to manage the process. You must be able to read both a standard and metric tape measure and use it accurately.
