Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Dock Worker to load and unload freight, operate forklifts and pallet jacks, and carefully secure cargo for safe transport. The role emphasizes safety, accuracy in shipping labels, and adherence to DOT guidelines.

The successful candidate will be comfortable with fast-paced environments, manual handling, and using yard management software to track shipments across our service centers, contributing to reliable deliveries for customers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must have working knowledge of safe and efficient lifting and transporting procedures.
• Must understand procedures surrounding freight transportation.
• Familiarity with loading techniques (tight & cross loading).
• Ability to use dock yard management system to monitor shipment locations.
• Must be available to meet customer pickup/delivery schedules.
• Ability to operate handheld tablets as needed.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using a forklift, pallet jack, or manually.
• Use loading techniques such as loading tight or cross loading.
• Transport personnel and freight across the service center.
• Monitor freight locations with the dock yard management system.
• Read and interpret shipping labels and freight documents.
• Secure freight inside trailers using straps, rope, and airbags.
• Ensure quality loading of all trailers and proper securing of freight.
