Job summary

Ayuda Companies is seeking a field-oriented Forestry Technician to support Fort Jackson programs in forestry, wildland fire, and wildlife management. The role involves timber marking, prescribed fire preparation, timber inventory, and other wildlife duties in challenging outdoor conditions.

Eligible candidates should have a Forestry degree, experience with timber marking, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in hot, humid environments.

Qualifications

• College Degree in Forestry or related discipline.
• Experience marking and cruising timber.
• Ability and willingness to work in challenging field conditions, including long days and inclement weather (extreme heat/humidity, cold).
• Must be comfortable working independently and collaboratively.
• Strong work ethic.
• Experience with ATVs, off-road vehicle operation, and 4-wheel drive vehicles on unimproved roads.

Responsibilities

• Timber Marking: Marking annual timber harvests as prescribed for multiple objectives; painting boundaries and collecting GPS data for harvest maps.
• Prescribed Fire: Preparing burn areas and equipment for prescribed fire; assisting ignition and mop-up of prescribed fire; completing post-burn evaluations and collecting weather data.
• Timber Inventory: Conducting pre and post timber harvest inventory; managing data on inventory software for field collection.
• Other Duties as Assigned: Assisting with wildlife management practices, prepping and planting food plot fields, maintaining RCW clusters and migratory bird boxes, conducting wildlife surveys.
