Job summary

FORECON Inc. in Cortland, NY is seeking a Forestry Technician to join our growing field team. The candidate should reside within 40 miles of Cortland and hold an Associate’s degree in Forestry, Forest Technology, or Environmental Biology, or have 2+ years of practical field forestry experience.

Key duties include timber inventory, sale preparation, and collecting forest data using GPS and photography, with other forest management tasks for long-term clients. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher in forestry or closely-related field or 2+ years of practical field forestry experience.
• Competence in tree species identification and forest mensuration techniques (plot sampling, point sampling, 100% inventory).
• Basic knowledge of common computer/office software.
• Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to work out of town for 1–2 week periods.

Responsibilities

• Timber inventory (cruising).
• Timber sale preparation (timber marking).
• Forest data collection, including GPS and photographs.
• Other duties related to forest management for our long-term clients.
