Job summary

Stella-Jones is seeking a Forestry Technician to support the Forester-Buyer in supplying raw materials for the production yard. The role covers Western Georgia and involves pole marking, timber cruising, and boundary flagging, with emphasis on safety and quality control.

Qualifications

  • Forestry degree or 2 years' related experience, or equivalent
  • 2-4 years' timber cruising and pole marking experience
  • Driver’s License required

Responsibilities

We are seeking a qualified Forestry Technician to assist the Forester-Buyer in providing raw material to the production yard to meet production targets. This role performs technical forestry duties including pole marking, timber cruising, and flagging boundary lines. Conducts routine logging inspections to ensure proper harvesting specifications. This position will cover assigned regions in Western Georgia.

  • Provides a continuous monthly supply of poles to accomplish above-allocated annual production requirements
  • Verifies quantity and quality of materials received
  • Supervises manufacturing of poles to ensure quality control and directs sizes toward company needs
  • Contacts and follows up on any open market producers that have material fitting production needs
  • Responds to and performs on special market requirements for poles and piling, as well as specialized production of masts, spars, and other material for lathe turning
  • Inspects and evaluates potential timber sales and follows up with successful purchasers for possible pole production
  • Maintains contacts in the industry and related areas to develop information regarding future pole production potentials and market information on poles, piling, and other products. Reports findings on a regular basis
  • Provides a monthly estimate of pole volume to be produced by each individual or job
  • Participates and contribute to company safety program
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Education: Forestry technical associate degree or related field preferred; or two years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience: 2-4 Years' timber cruising and pole marking experience
  • License/Certification: Driver’s License

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
