GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

This is the third of seven levels in the Grounds and Facility Maintenance series. Incumbents maintain assigned buildings and grounds. Responsibilities may include cleaning assigned facilities; maintaining landscaping; operating heavy equipment; setting up for meetings and events; touching up paint; replacing lightbulbs, filters, and similar items; performing minor repairs to plumbing and electrical systems; performing rough carpentry and minor welding; installing small electrical appliances and furniture; and securing buildings.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

• Works with and maintains a wide variety of trees;

• Under general supervision, uses comprehensive knowledge to perform work associated with the planting, care and maintenance, and removal of trees on City-owned property, parks, and rights-of-way;

• Operates various equipment and tools which are used for daily tree work projects;

• Prunes and maintains trees on City property, parks, and rights-of-way;

• Performs planting, transplanting, watering, fertilization, and mulching projects;

• Loads and unloads all equipment for transporting to work sites;

• Inspects and prepares equipment for safe and proper operation prior to beginning work;

• Performs other work as required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

• One (1) year of experience in facilities maintenance.

• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job's essential duties.

License and Certifications

• Possession of a valid Class D driver’s license.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED

Physical Requirements

The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

• Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.

• Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.

• Crawling: Moving about on hands, knees, hands, and feet.

• Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

• Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

• Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

• Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

• Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.

• Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination sound.
