Job summary

University of California, Berkeley, through Berkeley Forests, seeks an on-site leader to manage research forest facilities and operations at Blodgett Forest in El Dorado County.

You will coordinate field activities, supervise staff, and ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and budget adherence while supporting long-term forest management objectives related to fire, water, wildlife, timber, diversity, and carbon sequestration.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Forestry or related field or equivalent experience.
• Licensure: Registered Professional Forester or ability to obtain within two years.
• Driver's License: Valid driver's license and clean record; CA Employer Pull Notice enrollment.
• Knowledge: Safety, legal, cultural, and regulatory forestry requirements (CA Forest Practice Rules, CEQA, grant writing).
• Skills: Field station/facility management experience, analytical problem solving, and computer competency.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations, supervision of seasonal workers, volunteers, and staff.
• Coordinate silvicultural activities and timber harvest procedures for campus research goals.
• Prepare regulatory reports, THPs, CEQA documentation, and grant proposals.
• Ensure compliance with university policies and California Forest Practice Rules.
