Job summary

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, FLORIDA FOREST SERVICE, seeks a dedicated firefighter to join the open competitive opportunity. This role focuses on forest fire prevention, detection, suppression, and presuppression, delivering technical forestry services to landowners and industry partners.

The incumbent operates a range of fire suppression equipment, conducts investigations, and supports public education and wildfire prevention programs.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent, age 18+.
• No disqualifying criminal convictions per Florida statute 633.
• Submit a fingerprint card with a current processing fee.
• Good moral character as determined by division investigation.
• Be in good physical condition as prescribed by the division (NFPA 1582).
• Be a non-user of tobacco for at least one year prior to application.

Responsibilities

• This work is in forest fire prevention, detection, suppression and presuppression, providing technical forestry services to landowners and wood-using industry representatives.
• Operates and maintains equipment for suppression of wildfires, including engines, bulldozers, and transports.
• Investigates wildfire causes, gathers evidence, interviews witnesses, and issues violations when appropriate.
• Performs public education and wildfire hazard mitigation activities.
