Job summary

EFI Global is seeking a Forensic Structural Engineer, P.E. in Bloomington, MN. The role involves investigating events, evaluating structural failures, and providing expert opinions and testimony in court or depositions.

Responsibilities include leading junior staff, conducting property loss surveys, documenting findings, and delivering detailed reports and drawings to clients. A PE license and multi-state eligibility are preferred to support complex investigations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited college.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in resident state; multi-state licensing and/or active NCEES Record preferred.
  • Experience determining causes of structural failure, storm and roof damage assessments, building envelope investigations, and evaluating structural collapses.
  • Expert witness testimony experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and leadership to less experienced colleagues on complex engineering assignments.
  • Survey property, casualty and liability losses at residential and commercial buildings and loss scenes.
  • Conduct investigations to determine root causes of events and failures.
  • Work closely with engineers and investigators to produce detailed reports, drawings, and outline causes and origins of losses and damages.
  • Develop plans, reports, and drawings to meet client needs and document failure analysis and causation.
  • Provide expert testimony in court and in depositions.
  • Determine applicable engineering practices for scope of work, project specifics, timelines, and cost estimates.
  • Document and maintain billable hours on a time and expense basis.
  • Collaborate with sales and operations managers, architects, developers, insurance adjusters, claims managers and attorneys to develop demand for professional services.
  • Collaborate with EFI’s national team of forensic experts to share experiences and assist on projects.

Location: Bloomington, MN (tri-state region KY-OH-IN)

Primary Purpose

To investigate events, systems, devices and/or failures and provide expert opinions; to provide ethical and scientific guidance on complex engineering assignments; to contribute to overall profitability through expert consulting services.

Responsibilities

Compensation and Benefits

Competitive base salary of $115,000–$145,000 (location based). Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with matching, paid time off, disability and life insurance, employee assistance, flexible spending or health savings accounts, and additional voluntary benefits.
