Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, through the Department of Human Services, seeks a Forensic Security Employee Trainee at Norristown State Hospital to gain hands-on experience in patient care within a secure, therapeutic setting. The program combines classroom training with supervised on-site practice to build essential skills in monitoring, daily living support, and documentation.

During the one-year training, you will rotate between day and evening shifts; overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• Completion of the tenth grade; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Ability to perform essential job functions and meet PA residency requirements.
• Medical examination and drug screening may be required and background checks including PA State Police and FBI clearance.

This role focuses on learning and applying the skills needed to support patients at the Regional Forensic Psychiatric Center. It involves supervised training, direct care, and maintaining a secure and therapeutic environment. As a Forensic Security Employee Trainee, you will perform the following duties:

• Patient Monitoring: Observe patients and living areas to support safety, routine activities, and treatment needs
• Daily Care Assistance:Help patients with personal care tasks and guide them in building everyday living skills
• Clinical Support: Perform basic nursing tasks such as collecting specimens and recording vital signs as instructed
• Treatment Participation: Engage in treatment planning and carry out assigned interventions in a supportive manner
• Security Rounds: Conduct scheduled and unscheduled checks of assigned areas and report concerns promptly
• Documentation Review: Record observations and patient information clearly in accordance with established procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• The first eight weeks of classroom training will be on day shift, Monday - Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Following the classroom training, you will be required to rotate between the two shifts below throughout the one-year training period. You will work a rotating schedule with every other weekend off and a 30-minute lunch.
  • 1st Shift - 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
  • 2nd Shift - 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM
• Overtime will be required as operationally necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

• Completion of the tenth school grade; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
