SNA International is seeking a bright, collaborative Forensic Scientist 3-Supervisory DNA Analyst to lead a team performing DNA typing and sequencing for remains of service members at the Dover, DE facility.

The role requires advanced forensic biology expertise, leadership abilities, and the ability to obtain a NAC-I security clearance. This is an onsite position with a strong emphasis on quality reports and training opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a team of DNA analysts or technicians to conduct DNA typing services for remains of military personnel.
• Oversee analysis and interpretation of technical data and produce reports.
• Provide training in laboratory techniques to staff, students, and guests.
• Operate and maintain DNA sequencing methods (Sanger and Next Generation Sequencing).
• Ensure safety and compliance with security requirements in the laboratory.

Job description

Critical Work Responsibilities include:

• Responsible for a team of DNA Analysts or Technicians whose primary mission is to conduct DNA based typing services to identify the remains of American military personnel killed during previous U.S. military conflicts to include Southeast Asia, Korea, and World War II.

• Supervision of scientific and technical staff personnel.
• Perform special duties at the direction of the Technical Leader and Assistant Technical Leaders
• Process biological specimens, to include stains, human blood, oral swabs, cadaveric tissues, teeth, and bone.
• Generate, analyze, and interpret technical data, and produce technical reports.
• Provide training in laboratory techniques and procedures to technical staff, students, and guests of the laboratory.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• Master’s degree in forensic science or a master’s degree in one of the natural sciences with three years of experience in forensic science, or a B.A./B.S. degree in a biology-, chemistry-, or forensic science-related area with five years of relevant DNA experience.
• Must have at least 9 cumulative semester hours or equivalent (graduate or undergraduate level) course work covering the following subject areas: biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology; and course work and/or training in statistics and/or population genetics as it applies to forensic DNA analysis.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a NAC-I Security clearance.

• WorkisonsiteattheAFMES facility.
• Understand that the possibility exists of exposure to noxious odors, hazardous chemicals,poisons,corrosivereagents,infectioustissues,x-ray,laser,and ultraviolet types of electromagnetic radiation.
• UnderstandsthattravelmayberequiredasapartofaDNAcollectionand/orsitesof mass fatality incidents as required by the government.

Physical Demands:

• SupervisorDNAAnalystshouldbeable to:
  • Sitorstandatautomatedcomputermanagementsystems,computersorlaboratory stations for extended periods of time.
  • Operateautomatedand/orrobotic instrumentation.
• Performlaboratoryhouse-keeping activities.
