Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a capable Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) in Ohio to respond to forensic nursing consults at Marion General and partner facilities. You will perform medical forensic examinations for victims of interpersonal violence, collect evidence, and coordinate follow-up with law enforcement and healthcare teams.

Ideal candidates hold an RN license in Ohio, SANE-A/P certifications, and complete required training. On-call responsibilities and court testimony are part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree required.
  • Current RN license from the State of Ohio.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • SANE-A - Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner - Adult/Adolescent certification.
  • SANE-P - Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner - Pediatric certification.
  • Must complete 40+ hours of didactic training.
  • Must perform speculum exams under direct supervision of a physician/NP/PA until competent.
  • Must complete 3 sexual assault exams with an experienced forensic nurse, on a patient or in a simulation environment.
  • Must commit to being on call a minimum of 24 hours per month for the assigned area.
  • Must attend 75% of monthly meetings.
  • Must be willing to commit to providing 2 years of service as a forensic nurse after training is completed.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to forensic nursing consults at Marion General, Mansfield Hospital, Grady Memorial, Lewis Center FSED, Hardin Memorial, Shelby Hospital, Ashland FSED, Ontario Hospital, and Morrow County Hospital.
  • Provide medical forensic examinations to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking, and other interpersonal violence.
  • Collect comprehensive patient health and situational data in a systematic, ongoing process involving the patient and law enforcement.
  • Complete detailed patient/victim histories.
  • Prioritize data collection, including photographic documentation and body diagrams.
  • Perform head-to-toe assessments to identify life-threatening injuries for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Use evidence-based assessment techniques and instruments to collect, analyze, and document subjective and objective patient data.
  • Collect evidence using an Ohio Department of Health kit while following Ohio Revised Code and International Association of Forensic Nurses protocols.
  • Identify and report life-threatening injuries, trauma, or other injuries to the physician.
  • Develop nursing diagnoses and collaborative problems.
  • Develop safety plans with law enforcement, patients, families, and advocates.
  • Coordinate follow‑up care for STI/HIV testing, trauma‑informed care, and other necessary services.
  • Modify expected outcomes based on changes in patient status or situational evaluations.
  • Testify in court regarding forensic examination processes, collected items, photographic documentation, and medical records.
