Job summary

DC Government's Department of Forensic Sciences, Forensic Science Laboratory, is seeking a Forensic Science Technician to assist with technical laboratory work, casework, accreditation, quality assurance, and control programs.

The successful candidate will perform basic testing, support audit preparation, and follow safety protocols while learning reagent prep, instrument setup, and report writing.

Qualifications

• Degree in biological, sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
• Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major plus appropriate experience or additional education.
• Specialized Experience: 1 year at least at the next lower grade level is creditable.

Responsibilities

• As a technician, performs a variety of operations in a laboratory setting, e.g., basic testing and troubleshooting for casework, and accreditation; supports quality assurance records.
• Assists with audit preparation and administration; demonstrates continuous efforts to improve operations; coordinates the laboratory program with quality control.
• Utilizes training to assist with day-to-day processes including reagent preparation, laboratory decontamination, instrument setup and troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, temperature monitoring, materials handling, documentation, and report writing.
