Job summary

The Staff Assistant (Forensic Identification) at DC Government supports the Forensic Identification Unit of the OCME. You will handle public, law enforcement, and facility inquiries, triage requests, and ensure timely processing of decedent identification, cremation, and related documents.

You will collect payments, submit fingerprints to agencies, update medicolegal case information, and assist families with resources and forms.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade.
• This position is designated essential and safety sensitive; rotating shifts and 24/7 operations.
• Residency preference for District residency for seven years.

Responsibilities

• Receive and triage incoming calls, faxes, and walk-in inquiries from the public and agencies.
• Document inquiries and ensure timely handling of requests for the ID Unit.
• Process payments for cremation and related documents and forward to the appropriate department.
• Coordinate decedent identification: contact families, schedule visual identifications, and assist with documentation.
• Submit fingerprints to agencies and update medicolegal case information.
• Capture alias lists when discrepancies arise between tentative names and fingerprint results.
