Job summary

SNA International seeks a bright, collaborative Firearms Examiner to join our team in Mississippi. You will analyze firearms evidence, perform serial number restorations, and coordinate with NIBIN to support investigations.

The ideal candidate has five years of experience, a biology/physical science background, and demonstrated competency under ISO/IEC 17025; travel across the state may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biological/physical science or related subject (or equivalent experience).
  • Five years of experience as a firearms examiner.
  • Experience comparing recovered cartridge cases with laboratory references.
  • Experience using a comparison microscope for cartridge case comparisons.
  • Training and competency in firearms analysis per ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
  • Experience/testimony in court.
  • Willingness to travel to other Mississippi laboratories.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical assistance to law enforcement agencies in analyzing firearms per MSFL policies and ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
  • Examine firearms, ammunition, and components; perform serial number restorations; conduct test fires and compare with crime scene evidence.
  • Prepare exhaustive documentation of findings and create reports.
  • Collaborate with NIBIN to share and access firearms-related data.
  • Uphold QA/QC per ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation standards.
