Job summary

The State of Minnesota seeks Drug Chemistry Trainee-Forensic Scientist 1 or Forensic Scientist 2 to join the Drug Chemistry Section of the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Forensic Science Services. The positions support evidence analysis, data interpretation, and acceptance of courtroom testimony, with training leading to career progression.

Locations will primarily be at the BCA headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota, with reassignment to the Mankato Regional Office when opened in spring 2027.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a physical or life science such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, forensic science or equivalent.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.

Responsibilities

• Provide evaluation, examination, analysis, and data interpretation for evidence from criminal investigations.
• Analyze items of evidence for presence or absence of controlled substances.
• Participate in training, onboarding, quality assurance, and expert witness testimony.
