Job summary

Lake County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a Crime Scene Investigator I to perform scene processing, documentation, and evidence handling. The role demands diligence across shifts, with responsibilities including photography, measurements, sketches, and chain-of-custody management.

The position requires an associate degree (or 3 years CSI experience) with recommended certification. Training, safety protocols, and testifying in court are integral parts of the job, at full-time status.

Qualifications

• Requires minimum of an associate degree or 3 years CSI experience in law enforcement.
• Board certification through a recognized body recommended.
• Bachelor’s degree in sciences recommended for professional knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Investigate crime scenes following proper collection techniques; photograph, measure, sketch, and document observations.
• Preserve and handle evidence; conduct chemical/alternate light source tests; collect DNA samples.
• Maintain evidence chain of custody and prepare reports and dispositions.
• Assist other agencies; testify in court; provide observations in lay terms as needed.
