Job description

This position pays $21.22 per hour plus $4.93 for Health and Welfare (H&W).

Job Summary

The foreman is responsible for the work crew assigned. This includes completing the scheduled work in accordance with the contract. The foreman is responsible for the preventive maintenance of the assigned equipment, ensuring it is used in a safe manner, and providing safety training on the equipment. This is a working position, meaning the Foreman will work along with the assigned work crew performing various grounds maintenance and landscaping tasks. The Foreman will provide transportation for the assigned work crew to and from the office to the work areas.

Primary Duties

  • Responsible for all work assigned to the crew members.
  • Assist crew in completing assignments by operating weed eaters, edgers, blowers, mowers (push and riding) and other equipment as assigned.
  • Check all assigned equipment at the start of each day to ensure it is in operable condition.
  • Report all repairs and maintenance needs to the mechanic in a timely manner.
  • Ensure contract requirements and quality assurance standards are being met.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist the assigned crew members to accomplish work through demonstration, verbal instructions, and hands‑on training.
  • Transport the work crew and equipment to and from the assigned work sites in a safe manner.
  • Ensure the maintained area is free of trash and other debris. Mow assigned areas to established height, edge and trim around all obstacles and planting beds, trim shrubs to established height, trim trees and remove limbs, etc. in accordance with contract specifications.
  • Ensure the security of assigned equipment by guaranteeing it is not stolen, damaged or misplaced.
  • Ensure assigned work crew follows established break and lunch times, as well as safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in the landscaping/grounds maintenance field, as well as 2 years of grounds maintenance/landscaping experience required.
  • Valid driver's license and/or access to reliable transportation to perform work‑related travel required. Eligible drivers must have a good motor vehicle record (MVR).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Work Environment

While performing these duties the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and extreme heat, and occasionally exposed to extreme cold. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
