Job summary

Rush Enterprises Inc. seeking a Diesel Shop Foreman Technician to lead a team of diesel mechanics and drive shop-floor excellence. This role emphasizes supervision, scheduling, quality control, and mentorship under the Service Manager.

You will recruit and mentor technicians, coordinate repairs, and ensure safe, high-quality work. ASE/Diamond or manufacturer certifications are a plus, with growth opportunities within Rush Truck Centers.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years' related shop and technician supervision experience.
  • Insurability with Company's carrier.
  • ASE Master Certification or manufacturer certifications (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, and motivate qualified diesel mechanics.
  • Assist diesel mechanics in developing their skills with support of the Service Manager.
  • Schedule repair work and assign technicians to match skill levels.
  • Ensure repairs are assigned fairly to all mechanics.
  • Provide technical support for mechanics when necessary.
  • Monitor progress of each repair order throughout the day.
  • Maintain high-quality repairs and minimize comebacks; conduct spot checks.
  • Road test vehicles to quality-check work performed.
  • Monitor mechanics’ productivity reports and payroll records.

Foreman Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, hire, and motivate qualified diesel mechanics.
  • Assist diesel mechanics in developing their skills with support of the Service Manager.
  • Schedule repair work and assign technician(s) to mechanical segments that match their skill level to ensure quality.
  • Ensure that all repairs are assigned to mechanics in an equal and fair manner.
  • Provide technical support for mechanics when necessary.
  • Check progress (W-I-P) of each repair order throughout the day.
  • Maintain high-quality repairs and minimize comebacks. Conduct periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality.
  • Road test vehicles to quality-check work performed.
  • Monitor mechanics’ daily productivity reports and corresponding payroll records.
Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Two years' related shop and technician supervision experience.
  • Insurability with Company's carrier.
  • PLUS IF - ASE Master Certification program; Diamond Certification Program; Cat, Cummins, Eaton, Fuller, or other appropriate manufacturer certifications.
