Pitt County Government seeks a Foreign Language Interpreter II to assist health department staff by translating and interpreting communications for Spanish-speaking clients in all client health-related areas.
The role requires fluency in English and the foreign language, knowledge of interpreting ethics, and the ability to assess client language needs and dialects while applying program regulations and procedures.
The Foreign Language Interpreter II position is to assist other health department staff with their communication, written or verbal, to Spanish speaking clients in all areas related to the well-being of the client.
Ability to interpret/translate all verbal information and written materials in English and the foreign language. Significant knowledge of the ethics of interpreting. Ability to assess communication skill level of client and exercise judgment in determining services to be rendered. Ability to understand and interpret information in the various dialects of that language. Significant knowledge of the program area, regulations, policies, procedures, etc. assigned.
Graduation from high school or GED and one year of experience in interpreting and translating English and the required foreign language in a setting that requires a knowledge of the programs or services. Demonstrates fluency and skill necessary to meet the needs of the organization and client populations served; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
