Job summary

Ford Racing, part of Ford Motor Company, is seeking a Powertrain Test Engineer in Allen Park, MI. You will manage powertrain test installs, dyno tests, and data delivery to engineering teams, while preparing and maintaining test cell systems and instrumentation.

Role requires 3+ years of race/high-performance powertrain testing experience, knowledge of ICE theory and systems, and collaboration with the engineering team to update procedures. Onsite five days a week in Allen Park, MI.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of race/high-performance powertrain testing experience.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engine theory, mechanics, and systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with test cell control, data collection, and data visualization software.
  • Experience with fired and non-fired powertrain components.

  • Manage receiving, storing, and palletizing engines and inventorying components.
  • Execute installation of powertrains into the test cell including prepping subsystems and instrumentation.
  • Conduct dynamometer tests in accordance with Ford standards.
  • Ensure instrumentation validity via calibration, replacement, and spot checks.
  • Handle data workflow, including collection, storage, and extraction of test results for delivery to engineering.
  • Support investigation of testing failures, service, and repairs.
  • Update test procedures with engineering team as needed.

In this position...

You will manage powertrain test installs, execution, and delivery of results. This will also include preparation and maintenance of test cell systems and instrumentation. You will be responsible for conducting dynamometer tests in accordance with Ford standards, ensures data accuracy, and delivering test data to engineering teams. You may also be required to investigate failures and restore and maintain test cell readiness through service and repairs.

This role requires 5 days onsite per week in Allen Park, MI.
What You'll Do...
  • Manage receiving, storing, and palletizing engines and inventorying components
  • Execute installation of powertrains into the test cell including prepping subsystems (fuel, exhaust, lubrication, etc.) and instrumentation (transducers, thermocouples, etc.)
  • Conduct dynamometer tests in accordance with Ford standards
  • Ensure instrumentation validity via regular calibration, replacement, and spot checks
  • Handle data workflow, including the collection, storage, and extraction of test results for delivery to the engineering team
  • Support investigation of testing failures, performing engine servicing, hardware replacements, and instrumentation repairs
  • Work with engineering team to update test procedures based on testing needs
You’ll have…
  • Minimum 3+ years of race or high-performance powertrain testing experience which includes experience in the following:
    • Internal combustion engine theory, mechanics, and systems,
    • Manufacturing processes and the ability to accurately interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams,
    • Test cell control, data collection, and data visualization software and
    • Fired and non-fired powertrain components.

  • Expertise using measurement instruments such as pressure transducers, thermocouples, flow meters, etc.
  • Proactive problem-solving by consistently implementing solutions to technical challenges.
  • Ability to fabricate test fixture and instrumentation solutions given limited resources.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and related software applications (Microsoft applications).
  • Experience with AVL Puma, Concerto, and Indicom.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
  • Flexible work schedule including occasional evening or weekend shifts as needs dictate.

This position is a salary grade 5 - 6 and ranges from $65,100-$124,500.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
