A leading child and family care organization in Omaha is seeking a part-time food service worker to prepare and serve food, maintain hygiene, and operate a cash register. The ideal candidate will have prior food service or cashier experience, along with a ServSafe Food Handlers certification. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to multitask in a busy environment.

Job description

Helps prepare and serve food and maintains a clean, organized workspace. Runs a cash register and provides customer service.

SHIFT: weekdays 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., approx. 20 hours per week. (no weekends)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
  • Prepares and serves food, cleans and sanitizes kitchen and equipment, and ensures proper food storage.
  • Prepares food or assists with food preparation as needed.
  • Maintains proper HACCP food safety policies and sanitization procedures for service and for clean‑up, including washing of dishes and equipment, ensuring food is properly handled and stored, and taking and recording food temperatures as required.
  • Abides by all regulatory standards (i.e. CMS, Joint Commission, USDA) and follows standards precautions.
  • As appropriate, follows and complies with isolation guidelines.
  • Reports any observed changes in patient/youth physical or mental condition to appropriate unit personnel.
  • Replenishes dining area supplies including dishes, pepper, and silverware; prepares area for next service as time permits.
Cashier Duties
  • Prepares the cash register drawer ensuring all monies are accounted for.
  • Rings up items, accepts monies from the customer, and gives out proper change.
  • Closes out the cash register at the end of the meal, fills out the daily revenue and cash sales sheets, and takes the money bag to lock services.
  • Maintains supplies in the dining room during and after the mealtime including refilling paper products, replenishing salad bar, and monitoring the beverage area.
  • Picks up trays from customers; wipes table and assists in breaking down the salad bar; performs light cleaning of the front area when called upon.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner.
  • Ability to use and troubleshoot cash register and kitchen equipment.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic math skills required to ensure accuracy of receipts.
  • Ability to multi‑task.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 6 months food services or cashier experience required.
  • ServSafe Food Handlers certification within 120 days of transfer or hire required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Food service and cashiering experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Position requires little to moderate physical activity exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently with constant standing or walking. Subject to inside environmental conditions subject to exposure to extreme cold from walk‑in coolers and freezers and extreme heat working with stoves, ovens, and steam tables. Exposure to odors, steam, and cleaning solutions.
