Job Summary

Performs cashiering duties and general food service work. Maintains sanitation standards in the preparation, service, and dining room facilities.

Location

University of Pittsburgh, 214 Student Union Drive, Johnstown, PA 15904.

Schedule

Full‑time schedule; 36‑40 hours per week. Open availability. Details upon interview.

Requirements

Prior food service experience preferred but not required.

Compensation

$14.46 per hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform prep work such as washing, peeling, cutting and seeding fruits and vegetables. Weigh and measure designated ingredients.
• Carry pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from work stations, stove and refrigerator in accordance with safety standards. Distribute supplies, utensils, and portable equipment.
• Store foods in designated areas in accordance with wrapping, dating, and food safety and rotation procedures.
• Clean work areas, equipment, and utensils.
• Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety requirements.
• Use approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control.
• Serve customers in a friendly, efficient manner following the outlined steps of service.
• Interact with customers and resolve complaints in a friendly, service‑oriented manner.
• Relay relevant information to supervisors.
• Perform sales transactions; enter sales into the cash register to ensure purchases are accurately recorded.
• Make change, accept declining balance cards and other acceptable forms of payment.
• Issue receipts to customers and follow standard procedures for issuing cash refunds.
• Manage assigned change funds and cash receipts, ensuring cash drawer compliance with overage/shortage standards.
• Replenish condiments, beverages and general supplies while maintaining service area cleanliness.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Periods

Because this position requires services in an educational facility, there may be periods (such as winter and summer breaks) when food service needs decline or cease. These periods may be unpaid and considered temporary layoff. However, you may be required to work year‑round or at a different location during break periods.
