Job summary

MedStar Health in Maryland is seeking a food service assistant to assist in the preparation and serving of meals, maintaining clean and safe work areas across kitchen and dining spaces.

You will read recipes, operate kitchen tools, stock stations, interact with customers, and participate in safety trainings and allergy awareness. No prior experience required; HS diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

About the Job

General Summary of Position

May work anywhere on the property where food is prepared. Assists in setup and serving of food from counters and steam tables. Duties will include cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work stations. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below but Sodexo may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ among accounts depending on business necessities and client requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
• Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Reads recipes and/or product directions.
• Operates a variety of kitchen utensils to weigh measure mix wash peel cut grind stir strain season and knead foodstuffs for cooking serving and storing.
• Assists in the preparation of hot and/or cold foods and properly stores food utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and spoilage.
• Inspects workstations for compliance with service standards.
• Keeps records and requisition for supplies/equipment as needed.
• Cleans and sanitizes workstations and equipment following all MedStar/Sodexo client and regulatory rules and procedures.
• Sets up stations with entrees soups salads breads condiments other food products and utensils.
• Provides general stocking duties in service area.
• Serves and replenishes food from counters and steam tables (sometimes using a conveyor food belt) and breaks down stations at the end of meal periods.
• Interacts with customers in the serving retail and dining areas.
• Assists customers with opening containers and cutting food when requested.
• Attends all allergy and food borne illness in-service training.
• Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
• Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
• Participates in regular safety meetings safety training and hazard assessments.
• Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
• May work on a tray line to distribute food.

Minimal Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED preferred or
• equivalent preferred

Experience

• Prior work experience not required Related work experience preferred

This position has a hiring range of

USD $18.40 - USD $29.74 /Hr.
