RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Food Service Worker to support patient meals and kitchen operations at RWJ Hamilton in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

This full-time, evening role focuses on tray assembly, sanitation, meal delivery, and collaboration with dietary staff to ensure safe, high-quality service for patients and visitors. Prior healthcare food service experience is preferred, with strong attention to detail and customer service.

Qualifications

• One year food service experience preferred.
• Able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Serve on the tray assembly line in assigned positions for starters, soups, desserts, and beverages.
• Wash pots and pans and perform heavy cleaning duties as directed.
• Assist in maintaining work areas, equipment, and supplies.
• Clean and sanitize work areas and equipment; perform routine cleaning duties.
• Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables according to policy.
• Label and date portioned food products.
• Deliver and pickup patient meal trays as required.
• Follow established food preparation policies and safety standards.
• Prepare, load, transport, and strip food trucks; scrape plates and soak utensils.
• Communicate patient questions to the Diet Office and notify nursing staff when needed.

Food Service Worker

As a Food Service Worker, you'll play an important role in creating a positive experience for our patients, visitors, and team members. By supporting the daily operations of the kitchen, tray line, and dish room, you'll help ensure every meal is prepared, delivered, and served safely, efficiently, and with care. Your commitment to food service excellence, teamwork, and customer service directly contributes to the exceptional patient experience that defines RWJBarnabas Health.

As a Food Service Worker, a typical day might include the following:

• Serve on the tray assembly line in assigned positions involving starters, servers, soups, desserts, and hot beverages.
• Wash pots and pans and perform heavy cleaning duties as directed.
• Assist in the care and maintenance of work areas, equipment, and supplies.
• Clean and sanitize work areas and equipment; perform general routine cleaning duties and non-round duties as assigned.
• Collect, process, and properly dispose of trash, recyclables, and waste.
• Correctly label and date portioned food products.
• Deliver and pick up patient meal trays according to department policy.
• Maintain established food preparation policies, procedures, standards, and quality expectations.
• Prepare, load, transport, and strip food trucks; scrape plates and pre-soak silverware.
• Communicate patient questions or concerns to the Diet Office and notify nursing staff when assistance is needed.
