Responsibilities

  • Assist with food preparation, portioning, and meal service according to menus and recipes.
  • Set up and maintain serving lines, stations, and dining areas.
  • Follow food safety and sanitation practices, including handwashing and allergen awareness.
  • Maintain production, temperature, cleaning and program records.
  • Clean and sanitize food-contact surfaces, equipment, utensils, and dining areas.
  • Operate kitchen and dishwashing equipment safely as trained.
  • Receive, store, label, date, and rotate food and supplies.
  • Work cooperatively with staff, students, and visitors.
  • Attend required training and comply with district policies and directions.
  • Operate the point of sale register and perform related duties.

FOOD SERVICE ASSISTANT - OTHS

RSU 34 is seeking a part-time Food Service Assistant to support the daily operation of the school nutrition program at Old Town High School.

Hourly Rate Range:

$17.36 - $19.48 per hour, per Collective Bargaining Agreement

Part-time, 25 hours per week; student school year plus additional assigned days to include mandatory training, meetings, and/or Summer Food Service Program. Benefits include clothing reimbursement, one free meal per day, and paid time off.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous food service experience is preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Food handler or ServSafe certification preferred.
Performance Expectations

The Food Service Assistant is expected to demonstrate dependable attendance, punctuality, teamwork, professionalism, quality customer service, and consistent adherence to food safety and sanitation standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assist with food preparation, portioning, and meal service according to menus, and standardized recipes.
  • Set up and maintain serving lines, food service stations, and dining areas.
  • Follow required food safety and sanitation practices, including proper handwashing, temperature control, allergen awareness, and prevention of cross-contamination.
  • Maintain required food production, temperature, cleaning, and other program records.
  • Clean and sanitize food‑contact surfaces, equipment, utensils, serving areas, and dining areas.
  • Operate kitchen and dishwashing equipment safely and according to training.
  • Receive, store, label, date, and rotate food and supplies using established procedures.
  • Work cooperatively with school nutrition staff, students, school personnel, and visitors.
  • Attend required training and comply with district policies and supervisory direction.
  • Operate point of sale register.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Duties may require prolonged standing and walking; bending, reaching, stooping, and kneeling; repetitive use of hands and arms. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
