Job summary

Pittsylvania County Schools Hurt Elementary School in Hurt, Virginia is hiring a Food Service Assistant to support daily cafeteria operations. You will portion and prepare foods, monitor temperatures, and maintain clean serving areas while following HACCP guidelines and safety procedures.

The role is part-time with benefits and a calendar per the Classified Agreement, reporting to the Food Service Manager. Immediate starting date and on-site work.

Qualifications

• Current TB test is required.
• Food Handlers Certification required.
• Ability to read and communicate in English.
• Ability to count, weigh and measure accurately.
• Follow instructions and take initiative in tasks.
• Physical ability to walk, stoop, stand, twist and squat.
• Lift a minimum of 51 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Interact with staff, students, faculty, visitors and coworkers professionally.
• Portion foods into appropriate quantities per recipe or as instructed.
• Assist food preparation using listed techniques (chopping, dicing, mixing, slicing).
• Wash pots, pans, and items using dish machine or three-compartment sink.
• Set up serving line with menu items and utensils.
• Monitor food temperatures and report unsafe temps to manager.
• Serve food according to recipe portions and instructions.
• Disassemble serving line and clean serving area.
• Discard or store leftovers properly.
• Follow HACCP guidelines for all tasks.
• Remove garbage and replace bags.

POSITION TITLE: Food Service - Assistant

FLSA: Non-Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current TB test.
• Food Handlers Certification.
• Ability to readand communicate in English.
• Accurately count, weigh,and measure.
• Follow instructionsand take initiative in performance of assigned tasks.
• Physical ability to walk, stoop, stand, twist,and squat on a constant basis.
• Lift a minimum of 51 pounds to 33 inches occasionally.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must work in a hot, humid environment.
• Must work in a cold, or below zero environment for short period.

REPORTS TO: Food Service Manager

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Benefits and work calendar as provided by the Classified Agreement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Interact with staff, students, faculty, visitors, and co-workers in a pleasant and professional manner.
• Portion foods into appropriate quantities per recipe or as instructed.
• Use techniques outlined in recipe or as instructed (chopping, dicing, mixing, slicing, etc.) to assist with food preparation.
• Wash pots, pans, and other items using dish machine or three (3) compartment sink.
• Place menu and a la carte foods on serving line and assemble the appropriate serving utensils.
• Monitor temperature of food and beverage prior to service and report unsafe temperatures to manager and take appropriate corrective actions.
• Serve food according to recipe portion or as instructed.
• Disassemble serving line and clean serving area.
• Discard or properly store left-over foods.
• Perform all tasks in accordance with HACCP guidelines.
• Remove garbage from trash receptacles and insert new bags.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Report to work at scheduled time with proper uniformand appropriately groomed.
• Assist in unpacking boxes, stocking storeroom or coolers, pulling food items from storeroom and other inventory management duties as assigned.
• Perform cleaning tasks as assigned.
• Adhere to all school district and building rulesand regulations.
• Utilize proper hand washing techniques.
• Participate in meetings, training sessions, andseminars as scheduled.
• Complete other tasks as assigned.

SALARY RANGE: $7,480.17 - $28,518.15
