Qualifications

  • Associate's or bachelor’s degree in food science, Food Safety, Biology, Microbiology, Agricultural Sciences, or related field preferred.
  • 0–2 years of experience in food manufacturing, food safety, quality assurance, or related environment.
  • Basic knowledge of GMPs and food safety principles.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • HACCP, SQF, or Preventive Controls training is a plus but not required.

  • Document findings and communicate concerns to leadership.
  • Assist with product sampling and quality evaluations.
  • Monitor production records for completion and accuracy.
  • Assist with inspections of incoming ingredients, packaging materials, and supplies.
  • Verifying incoming materials meets company requirements.
  • Review Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and supporting documentation.
  • Support traceability and receiving documentation activities.
  • Assist with internal audits and facility inspections.
  • Help identify and correct minor GMP and food safety issues.
  • Participate in SQF and customer audit preparation activities.
  • Verify completion of assigned corrective actions.
  • Assist with employee GMP and food safety training activities.
  • Reinforce food safety expectations with employees.
  • Communicate concerns, observations, and findings to the Food Safety Manager.
  • Work collaboratively with Production, Warehouse, and Maintenance teams.

The Food Safety Specialist supports the Food Safety Systems Manager/SQF Practitioner with daily food safety, quality, compliance, and documentation activities. This entry-level position assists with inspections, record review, product quality checks, GMP monitoring, audit preparation, and food safety program verification activities. The role provides an excellent opportunity for professional growth, including company-supported development toward obtaining HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) Certification and the SQF Practitioner Certification Credential, helping build the knowledge and qualifications needed for advancement in food safety and quality management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Food Safety Support
  • Assist with daily GMP inspections throughout the facility.
  • Observe employee practices and report food safety concerns.

End of Shift
  • Ensure records are complete and filed.
  • Communicate outstanding issues.
  • Assist with final facility inspection as needed.
  • Prepare documentation for the following day.
