Job summary

The Salvation Army Food Pantry Assistant supports pantry operations by stocking storage areas, packing client orders, and maintaining cleanliness of all pantry spaces and equipment.

The role includes handling food items per safety guidelines, assisting recipients with their orders, and guiding volunteers to ensure smooth operation. Training in Safe From Harm is required, with emphasis on ethics and professional boundaries.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Basic reading and math skills required.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Learn and adhere to The Salvation Army Social Services Code of Ethics.
• Complete Safe From Harm training and keep current as needed.

Responsibilities

• Stock pantry areas using supplies from storage, donations, etc.
• Unload, sort, and store food orders in designated areas.
• Maintain proper inventory levels and records of pantry items.
• Follow food safety guidelines and monitor shelf life, temperatures.
• Provide food orders to recipients based on household size and dietary needs.
• Assist recipients with carrying food items to vehicles as requested.
• Keep pantry area clean and organized; handle waste and break down boxes.
• Provide guidance to pantry volunteers as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
