Hiring Range: $30.61-$36.74/hour, commensurate with experience
Schedule: The anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with occasional adjustments

About Neighborhood House’s Food Support Program
In our Food Support program, nearly 1,000 families access the food they need at Neighborhood House each month. In each of our two markets, we strive to provide nutritious and culturally connected food so that families can choose the food they are excited to cook and eat. Neighborhood House also offers year-round fresh produce distributions, SNAP eligibility screening and application assistance, and other food access supports. Food rescue partnerships help us increase the variety and quantity of food available while reducing food waste.

Position Summary
The Food Market Operations Supervisor oversees back-of-house operations for Neighborhood House’s two food markets, including supervising operations staff and food rescue drivers. This role oversees inventory, backstock audits, receiving, stocking, storage, and opening and closing procedures, and partners with the Food Market Buyer/Receiver to adjust weekly order guides based on inventory and market needs. The supervisor also ensures equipment, documentation, food-safety practices, and storage systems meet operational and regulatory requirements while supporting smooth and reliable food distribution.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Supervision

• Supervise the Food Market Operations (Back of House) staff, ensuring operations run effectively and align with Neighborhood House goals.
• Develop and maintain weekly schedules for operations/back-of-house staff within established staffing plans; coordinate routine and same-day coverage changes; and escalate changes affecting staffing levels, regular schedules, service hours, or multiple sites to the Manager.
• Implement established work plans, procedures, and expectations set by program leadership, and ensure each team member understands their role in providing effective, welcoming, and culturally responsive food support services.
• Communicate operational plans, scheduling updates, procedural changes, and program decisions clearly and in a timely manner.
• Provide regular guidance, feedback, and coaching; address and document routine performance concerns; and consult with or escalate to the Manager when concerns are repeated, complex, or may require formal corrective action.
• Monitor and reinforce day-to-day staff adherence to applicable food safety, program, grant, data privacy, and organizational requirements; promptly address routine concerns and escalate significant, recurring, or unclear compliance matters to the Manager.
• In partnership with the Director of Volunteer Engagement, supervise Food Market Assistant volunteers at Wellstone Center and NHOM, including training, scheduling, and delegating tasks.
  

Program Coordination

• Serve as Person in Charge for assigned Food Market shifts at either location, directing staff and volunteers, adjusting daily workflow and coverage, addressing immediate participant-service and safety concerns, and escalating significant issues to the Manager.
• Oversee food stocking, inventory, opening and closing procedures, and storage
• Oversee special programs and events such as annual inventory, March Food Drive, farmers market pick-ups, and Fresh Produce Distribution
• Audit backstock monthly at Wellstone and NHOM Food Markets and adjust weekly order guides in partnership with the Food Market Buyer/Receiver
• Ensure that all equipment/appliances are in working order to comply with license requirements
• Monitor operational compliance, prepare assigned facilities, equipment, records, and processes for health and food-safety inspections, address routine concerns, and escalate significant or organization-wide risks to the Food Support Manager.
  

Direct Service

• Support the market floor and back of house as needed, creating a welcoming environment for participants who are seeking food support and ensuring smooth operations of the Food Market
• Other duties as identified for the success of Food Support and Neighborhood House.
  

Data and Evaluation

• Collect and enter all required data, especially receiving, donation, temperature, inventory, food rescue, safety, equipment, and distribution documentation, in accordance with Neighborhood House and funding requirements
• Assist the Director of Food Support and Food Support Manager in creating and tracking data for reporting and operational improvements
• Prepare or assist with preparation of funding agreement program reports as requested.
  

Safety, Communication, and Documentation

• Follow safe lifting, unloading, material-handling, food-safety, sanitation, and equipment-use procedures.
• Ensure the accurate and timely completion of receiving, donation, temperature, inventory, and other required documentation.
• Communicate promptly with the manager about delivery delays, product concerns, donor questions, equipment issues, safety hazards, injuries, or unusual donation volumes.
• Participate in required training, team meetings, and food safety activities.
• Work collaboratively with Food Support staff, volunteers, drivers, donors, vendors, and other Neighborhood House employees to support efficient daily operations.
  

Required Qualifications
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.

• At least two years of experience successfully supervising staff members.
• Ability to work independently, manage assigned tasks, and respond to changing delivery and market needs.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, social, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
• Commitment to serving families experiencing food insecurity with dignity, respect, and sensitivity.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English with staff, volunteers, delivery personnel, donors, and participants.
• Ability to learn and follow food safety, temperature-control, donation acceptance, sanitation, inventory rotation, and documentation procedures.
• Ability to organize products and storage areas accurately and efficiently.
• Strong attention to safety, cleanliness, organization, reliability, and detail.
• Ability to repeatedly lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and to push, pull, load, unload, and move carts, boxes, pallets, and food products.
• Ability to work on one’s feet and perform physically active work for much of the workday.
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to meet insurance requirements for operating Neighborhood House vehicles.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in grocery, warehouse, food shelf, food rescue, inventory, stocking, shipping and receiving, or a related role.
• Experience using pallet jacks, carts, scales, thermometers, or other receiving and material-handling equipment.
• Food handler certification or previous food safety training.
• Experience working with volunteers or providing customer or participant service.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills relevant to the communities served.
  

WORK LOCATION & SCHEDULE

This is an in-person, full-time position based in St. Paul, Minnesota, at both the Wellstone Center and Neighborhood House on Montreal. The anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., with occasional adjustments.

This role may require occasional evening or weekend hours to support organizational events or respond to operational needs.
