Job Summary/Overall Objectives

  • The Food Institute (FI) Technician supports the Food Institute by assisting the Nutrition Health Liaison with essential tasks that contribute to operations helping food insecure patients.This position also supports the Lifestyle Coaching (LC) Program with essential tasks. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ordering and receiving food shipments, rotating inventory, data entry, contacting patients upon referral, enrolling clients in LC programs, scheduling patients for FI appointments, conducting food demonstrations, and transporting food shares to patient vehicles. The position may include travel to other campus locations or community locations as needed regarding support in community events. Incumbent will be scheduled on designated days between M-F and operational hours are 8:00-4:30 with some evening and/or weekend coverage if needed for events.
  • Monitors and retrieves Provider Food Institute referrals.
  • Provides outreach to new and existing Food Institute clients
  • Registers and schedules Food Institute clients in Electronic Medical Record
  • Registers patients/clients for LC events and performs follow-up communication.
  • Orders, receives, requisitions, and rotates food/supply inventory, and performs food safety protocols.
  • Assists with food share distribution to food institute clients
  • Portions and assembles food share bags for patient appointments/classes and transports food share to the patient’s vehicle as needed.
  • Schedules virtual LC classes, sends/organizes materials, conducts surveys, and provides follow-up communication regarding LC classes.
  • Monitors online enrollment and digital advertising for LC events and classes.
  • Performs data entry into selected spreadsheets and uses the Electronic Health Record at the direction of the Nutrition Health Liaison.
  • Supports community events/ educating and sharing Food Institute as a resource
  • Assists with recipe development, food demonstrations and virtual/in-person classes.
  • Assists with administrative duties for team meetings (note taking, filing, virtual link creation, scheduling).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities]

Required Qualifications/Experience

  • Associate or higher level of degree in nutrition or health-related field
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Advanced working knowledge of computers, database systems, and office equipment.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition or health-related field
  • Experience in Healthcare setting.

License, Certification & Clearances

  • Current ServSafe Certification or must obtain within three months of hire/transfer required.
  • Act 33 with renewal.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
  • Act 73 Fingerprint Clearance with renewal.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
  • Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health locations.
