Job summary

Job description

Relocation Assistance May be Available

The Opportunity

This position requires the operator to be proficient in all areas of efficient and speedy make ready as well as running machinery at its maximum rated efficiency. Must also have the proficiency to trouble shoot problem areas in the equipment and become a leader so that one now has the skills and capabilities to become a lead when an opening exists. Any other duties as assigned by management.

How you will impact Smurfit WestRock
  • Set up, make ready, and operate folder/gluer equipment and Leary glue and detection systems at maximum rated efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues to minimize downtime and maintain product quality.
  • Adjust machine settings during production runs to ensure proper carton feed, glue application, and delivery.
  • Inspect, pack, and feed product as required while operating equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Review and interpret job jackets and pallet tickets to ensure accurate production.
  • Enter and manage work orders using JD Edwards and navigate plant floor data systems.
  • Comply with all workplace rules, safety standards, SQF requirements, and company policies.
  • Support team operations and demonstrate leadership capabilities to prepare for future lead opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
What you need to succeed

Required qualifications

  • Basic mechanical knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot industrial machinery.
  • Proficiency in setting up and operating folder/gluer equipment and Leary glue and detection systems.
  • Ability to make accurate machine adjustments during setup and production.
  • Experience reading and understanding job documentation, including job jackets and pallet tickets.
  • Willingness to learn and utilize plant floor data systems.
  • Ability to follow all safety procedures and quality standards.
Physical and safety requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to feed, pack, and inspect product throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and moving equipment.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, earplugs, bump cap, steel‑toe boots, hairnet, beard net, gloves, and facemask.
