Job summary

Empire Foam Innovations is seeking a Floor Supervisor for the foam production area to oversee department leads and production staff on the shop floor. You will ensure orders move through the line accurately, verify cutting lists, labels, and job information, and enforce procedures and safety standards.

Daily duties include prioritizing work, tracking attendance and overtime, reviewing progress with the Production Manager, and escalating issues promptly.

Qualifications

• Previous supervisory or lead experience in foam fabrication, furniture manufacturing, or a related production environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily activities of foam department leads and production employees.

• Ensure production orders are completed fully and accurately before moving to the next department or process.
• Confirm foam cutting lists, production paperwork, labels, quantities, and job information are accurate.
• Enforce approved foam production procedures and company policies consistently.
• Monitor employee attendance, start times, breaks, meal periods, and scheduled hours.
• Track overtime and confirm overtime is approved by the Production Manager before additional hours are worked.
• Identify reasons for overtime and help reduce unnecessary overtime through better workflow, staffing assignments, and communication.
• Monitor daily output and compare completed work against the production schedule.
• When production falls behind, work with the appropriate lead to identify the cause and develop a recovery plan.
• Coordinate with other departments to prevent delays involving materials, work orders, staging, equipment, or scheduling.
• Ensure completed foam is properly identified, counted, staged, and transferred to the correct area.
• Monitor the quality of foam cutting, measurements, shapes, quantities, and completed components.
• Ensure errors, damaged materials, rework, shortages, and recurring production issues are reported and addressed promptly.
• Investigate recurring production problems and recommend corrective actions to the Production Manager.
• Coach and correct leads and employees when procedures, reporting requirements, quality standards, or production expectations are not being followed.
• Document performance issues, repeated violations, missed reports, and failure to complete assigned work.
• Provide the Production Manager with recommendations regarding employee performance, coaching, corrective action, staffing, and other personnel matters.
• Provide regular updates to the Production Manager regarding production status, staffing, overtime, quality issues, safety concerns, and unresolved problems.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

The Foam Production Floor Supervisor serves as the direct link between Production Manager and the foam department leads. The position is responsible for helping ensure that leads follow established procedures, complete assigned work, manage their teams effectively, and submit required production reports accurately and on time.

This is a hands-on floor supervision role. The supervisor is expected to remain active throughout the production floor, monitor each stage of the foam process, identify delays or problems, and hold leads and employees accountable for daily production, quality, safety, and reporting expectations. Unresolved production, staffing, quality, safety, or overtime concerns must be communicated to Production Manager promptly.

Safety Responsibilities

• Enforce company safety requirements, required PPE, housekeeping standards, and proper equipment use throughout the foam department.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions, unsafe work practices, equipment concerns, and other workplace hazards immediately.
• Stop work when an immediate quality or safety concern is identified and notify the Production Manager or appropriate management.
• Assist with safety follow-up, incident reviews, corrective actions, and employee safety communication as directed.
• Participate in safety meetings and/or Safety Committee activities as assigned.
• Help ensure aisles, cutting stations, carts, staging areas, and work areas remain clean, organized, and free of avoidable hazards.

Daily Expectations

• Review the daily production schedule and priorities with the Production Manager.
• Meet with each lead to confirm assignments, staffing, and deadlines.
• Walk the production floor regularly and verify actual progress.
• Confirm required reports are being updated and completed accurately and on time.
• Monitor production quantities, quality, delays, attendance, safety, and overtime.
• Address problems as they occur and follow through until they are resolved or escalated.
• Provide the Production Manager with an end-of-day summary of completed work, incomplete work, overtime hours, and outstanding issues.

Authority and Accountability

The Foam Production Floor Supervisor has authority to direct foam department leads and production employees according to the production plan established by the Production Manager. Leads and employees are expected to cooperate with the supervisor, provide accurate information, submit required reports, and follow work instructions and established procedures.

The supervisor may correct work assignments, require completion of missing reports or procedures, and stop work that does not meet quality or safety requirements. Changes involving production priorities, staffing levels, overtime approval, formal disciplinary action, or major process changes must be reviewed with the Production Manager. The supervisor is expected to provide relevant facts and recommendations when employee performance or disciplinary issues arise.
