Job summary

The Flint School of Performing Arts, part of Flint Institute of Music, seeks a Flute Instructor to guide students from beginner to advanced levels within the Winds, Brass and Percussion Department.

You will plan engaging lessons, demonstrate techniques, track progress, and maintain open communication with students and families, while fostering an inclusive, community-minded studio environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the field and related teaching experience preferred.
• Experience teaching diverse styles of music preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and clear communication are essential.

Responsibilities

• Guide students using a variety of teaching methods and materials that foster growth and creative exploration.
• Provide expert music instruction, including demonstration during lessons.
• Ensure students are performance-ready and understand translating practice to public presentation.
• Establish rapport with students and families, encouraging open discussion.
• Manage logistics: communication with office staff, lesson scheduling, registration, and regular updates with students and families.
• Adhere to all Flint Institute of Music policies and procedures.

The Flint School of Performing Arts (FSPA) is looking for a driven, dedicated, and enthusiastic Flute Instructor. Working with the Winds, Brass and Percussion Department Chair, the Flute Instructor provides instruction and coaching for all ages from beginning through advanced levels.

Specific Responsibilities And Qualifications

Instruction and Mentorship

• Guide students using a variety of teaching methods and materials that foster growth and creative exploration.
• Provide expert music instruction, including demonstration during lessons.
• Ensure students are performance-ready and understand the process of translating practice work into a public presentation.
• Establish a good rapport with students and families, encouraging open discussion.
• Administrative
• Manage logistics, including but not limited to: communication with FSPA office staff, lesson scheduling, registration, and regular communication with students and families.
• Adhere to all FIM policies and procedures set forth.

Community Building

• Foster an inclusive, student-centered environment that supports risk-taking, mutual respect, and creative expression.
• Support outreach and communication efforts to help raise awareness, engage new participants, and connect the work of the Flint School of Performing Arts to the broader community.
• Model curiosity, openness, and professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.
